Staff Selection Commission recently released notification for Common Higher Secondary Level examination(SSC CHSL 2017-2017 Notification) for various posts including Postal Assistant/Sorting Assistant, Lower division Clerk (LDC), Junior Secretariat Assistant(JSC) and Data Entry Operator. The Postal Assistant and Sorting Assistant added in last year SSC CHSL 2016 notification, Due to this the number of vacancies is ssc cshl increased. What is SSC CHSL?
The term CHSL stands for Combined Higher Secondary Level exam. The Staff Selection Commission conducting the Combined Higher Secondary Level examination for various post such as Postal Assistant/Sorting Assistant, Lower Division Clerk(LDC), Junior Secretariat Assistant(JSA) and Data Enter Operators. SSC CHSL 2017-2018 Exam Date :
The closing date for ssc chsl 2017-2018 online application is 18-12-2017. The computer based Tier-I examination is on 04.03.2017 and 26.03.2017. The pen and paper mode tier-II examination(Descriptive Type) is on 08-07-2018. This year closing date and tier I online examination has gap of around 100 days. Candidates have enough time to prepare for the examination.
Online Application Closing date – 18-12-2017.

Tier-II Examination – 08-07-2017.
SSC CHSL 2017-2018 eligibility Criteria :
Candidate must be citizen of India or subject of Nepal or Subject of Bhutan or can be a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1st January 1962.
Age Limit :
To appear in the SSC CHSL 2017-18 the age of applicant should be between 18 to 27 as on 01.08.2017. Candidates born not before 02.08.1991 and not after 01.08.2000 are eligible to apply online. Age relaxation are applicable as per government of India orders. The permissible relaxations are
SC/ST – 5 Years
OBC- 3 Years
Persons with Disabilities(PWD)- 10 Years
Ex-Servicemen- 03 years after deduction military service rendered from the actual age as on the closing date. Hence candidates can available age relaxations.
Educational Qualifications :
Minimum education qualification for SSC CHSL 2017-2018 is candidate must have passed in 12th standard or equivalent examination from a recognized board or university. For the post of Data Entry Operators in the Office of Comptroller and Auditor General of India (C&AG) should have passed in 12th standard in science stream with Mathematics as a subject.
SSC CHSL 2017-2018 Salary :
The post Lower Divisional Clerk(LDC) and Junior Secretariat Assistant(JSA) are come under the Pay Band – I(Rs 5200-20200 ) + Grade Pay Rs.1900 (Pre Revised).
The posts Postal Assistan/Sorting Assistant and Data Entry Operators are come under Pay Band – I (Rs 5200-20200) + Grade Pay Rs.2400.
Data Entry Operator, Grade “A” comes under Pay Band-I(Rs 5200-20200 )+ Grade Pay Rs.2400(Pre Revised). The said salaries are pre revised salaries. After 7th pay commission the above said salaries are revised. In 7th pay commission the pay band structures are abolished, instead of that Pay Level introduced.

SSC CHSL 2017-18 Exam Pattern :
The Staff Selection Commission conducts Common Higher Secondary Level Examination in three phases Such as Tier-I, Tier-II and Tier-III.
Tier I examination is computer based online examination consist of 100 objective type questions with 2 marks each questions. The tier I examination is comprise of four sections namely English Language, General Intelligence, Quantitative aptitude and General Awareness. Each section consists of 25 questions with two marks each. similarly the there is .50 negative mark for each wrong answer.
Tier II Examination :
The tier II examination is descriptive type and the examination is in pen and paper mode. The objective of the exam is to check the writing skills of government employees. Total marks for tier II examination is 100 marks with 60 minutes duration. candidates should score minimum 33% marks to clear the tier II examination. Marks scored in Tier I and Tier II examination considered for final merit list. Hence candidates need to score more in Tier I and Tier II examinations. Candidates need to write a essay with 250-300 words. Paper will be in either Hindi or English.
Tier III is the Skill Test or Typing test, candidates need to qualify in this examination. Marks scored in Tier III will not considered for final merit list. Finally Marks scored in Tier I and Tier II is calculated for final merit list.
Skill test for Data Entry Operator – 8000 key impression/hr.
Similarly Data Entry Operator Grade A in C&AG – 15000 key impression/hr.
Candidates passed in Tier I and Tier II called for Typing test. Typing test for postal assistant and sorting assistant held in two languages, English and Hindi. Candidates who opted English language should type, with typing speed of 35 W.P.M(Word Per Minute). Candidates who opted Hindi Languages should type 30 W.P.M. The speed is calculating using computer, candidates need to type given passage in computer for 10 mins. Finally selected candidates posted as per their preference.
Selection procedure :
Candidates passed in Tier I examination called for Tier II examination. There may be different cut off marks for posts LDC, JSA, PA/SA and DEO Tier I and Tier II. Candidates shortlisted for Tier III based on their performance in Tier I and Tier II(should have minimum 33% marks in Tier II). Tier III is qualifying in nature, candidates qualified in Tier III will be called for document verification.
